Bubba's Good Eats, Unicoi , TN

Ok, so sometimes I go to restaurant expecting the worst and  it ends up being pretty good. Today I was kind of dreading lunch because Mom was taking me to a  new place because so many of her students worked there. I had no idea how the food was going to be.  Imagine how happy I was when I found out the food at Bubba's Good Eats in Unicoi, TN was DELICIOUS.
Today was the opening day for Bubba's and we were like the second people there. We were seated in a nice, comfy big booth and given menus to look at. The restaurant was decorated like a sports place with  jerseys on the wall, but it definitely needs some more color and decorations. It was a bit too empty. According to my Mom's students the owners are still looking for more decorations so I think the walls will be covered soon. The service was nice and friendly and everyone seemed excited for opening day. Our waitress was delightful and gave us the time to decide what we wanted without feeling rushed.
For the appetizer we ordered the mozzarella sticks. They were cheesy and tasty, perfectly gooey on the inside and crunchy on the outside. I ate my sticks with ranch and it was GOOD.
For my meal  I ordered the filet mignon with sweet potato fries and a baked potato. The food came out quickly and was prepared perfectly. The filet was tender and juicy with lots of flavor. It was cooked to a perfect medium and was so tender that I barely needed a knife to cut it.  The sweet potato fries were good, too. They were nice and  crispy and were served with a dipping honey. To be honest, I only had a few bites of the baked potato, because I was getting a little full, but the bites I had were yummy. The potato was baked to the perfect point where all the insides are soft and just screamed for butter and sour cream. I wish I could have eaten more.
After we finished our main course, the waitress came by to see if we wanted dessert. I was stuffed but my mom and her friend ordered blackberry cobbler.  It must have been wonderful because they cleaned the bowl in seconds.  For a minute or two, I feared for my life because of the spoons fighting for the last bite. I really think they like the cobbler.
Overall, it was a good meal in a fun atmosphere. Definitely a nice addition to restaurants in Unicoi County.

K&W Cafeteria, Myrtle Beach

It was during my first trip to the beach WITHOUT my mom that I learned what old people eat. And what do they eat you ask? The K&W cafeteria...excuse me I mean the K&W CRAPteria. Yes, Myrtle Beach has many wonderful places to eat, but this is not one of them.  This restaurant is probably the worst place I have ever visited.
As soon as I went into the restaurant, I looked around and knew the food was going to be as bland as the atmosphere. The walls were beige and the carpet was a dingy grey with burgundy checks. This isn't a restaurant where you are greeted by a hostess, instead you just grab a tray and wait in line like in a school cafeteria ( except any school cafeteria food is better).  You have to ask the lunch lady to give you whatever you want. The counter lady was really nice- almost too nice. There is such a thing as too friendly and she definitely was that. It was a little uncomfortable because she kept calling my Pappaw "sugar" AND my Mammaw was right next to him.
While in line, I decided to get the roast beef with new potatoes, a slice of Texas toast, and some blue jello. The meat was dry and chewy, subpar at best. It was smothered in this disgusting brown sauce that wasn't gravy or au jus ( and I love au jus). The sauce kind of reminded me of the greasy liquid you drain off cleaning the grill. NASTY! And it smelled like dog food, but I wouldn't even feed that stuff to my dog.
The potatoes were overdone and all the flavor had all been boiled out. They were almost as bland as the atmosphere. The toast was doughy. Texas toast is suppose to be crunchy and garlicky. This tasted like it had been covered in Papa John's Garlic Butter Sauce. And while that stuff is fine on pizza, it doesn't belong on toast.  The jello looked good when I got it, but ended up being more liquid than solid and tasted more like sugar than blue raspberry. Overall, food FAILURE!
